Stage Your Own Guitar Hero Tournament For Local CharityCategory: Music Article posted by: Alan Baltes
With the extreme popularity of Activision's Guitar Hero continuing to soar, it is a fantastic time to organize a Guitar Hero Tournament For Charity. It is an event that is exciting and entertaining for both the contestants and audience, as well as helping out a local charity in these trying times.
Here are a few simple steps that you can take to make this event a reality in you community:
Find players to compete. You can do this by just word of mouth or advertising on craigslist, etc. Figure out how many game consoles and how much space you have for the tournament so you'll know how many contestants you can accommodate. You will need to charge an entry fee to cover any costs you'll incur from hosting the tournament, as well as to donate part of the proceeds to a local charity.
Prepare the venue. For a larger tournament you will need two or three playing stations with a game console, the game with two guitars and a monitor for each. If you limit your participants to 16 or less, one station should be enough. Be sure to have room for both contestants and the audience to watch and a good sound system for the event.
Create tournament brackets. This will also be determined by the number of contestants. The simplest way to do this is to have a 16-player, single-elimination bracket. Each player will get to perform at least once with the winner moving on to play another winner. In the end one player will be the outright winner.
Decide what your scoring criteria will be. Although it is easy enough to let the game decide the winner by points, some tournaments also judge contestants based on their performance, awarding points to the better performer of a head-to-head battle. This also makes for a more entertaining tournament to watch.
Launch the competition. In the first round all participants should perform the same song at the same difficulty level. When the first round is over choose a different song and a harder difficulty level and continue this pattern until a winner is named.
Award prizes to the winners. You can give prizes to the top 3 finishers or the champion only.
Contact local television and radio stations, and other businesses and see if they are interested in sponsoring your event, with a portion of the entry fees donated to the local charity.
